Vincent DeMarco, President of the Maryland Citizens' Health Initiative, visits Center Maryland to discuss the real impact that public health legislation has on people's lives. He focuses primarily on two specific tax increases that he believes have have made brought about positive societal changes: those on alcohol and tobacco. Since the alcohol tax was last increased, there has been a decrease in the transmission of gonorrhea. Likewise, tobacco tax hikes have reduced use across the board and provided the state more budget to care for some of the our vulnerable fellow citizens.
